Bicycle Parking Hubs at Foresterhill and Royal Cornhill Hospital (A Spaces for People project)

The Spaces for People Project are pleased to announce the opening of bike parks to staff from the 3rd September 2021.  Working in partnership with SUSTRANS bike parks were funded as a permanent addition to the ARI and Cornhill hospital sites.

Benefits of Bicycle Hubs:

  • They offer more security than traditional ‘Sheffield’ style bicycle parking. NHS Grampian’s Hubs offer 2 levels of security as both a door entry code and staff ID card are required for access.  Bicycles stored in the hubs are not particularly visible from the outside.
  • They are more space saving and easier to maintain than individual bicycle lockers. They are also more suitable for modern e-bikes as not as much physical handling of the bicycle is required.

Here is a 30 second video where Evonne Llewellyn, Spaces for People Project Manager describes the Bike Park at Ashgrove House on the Foresterhill site:

So here’s the important bit, how do you access the bike parks?

  1. You will require a NHS Grampian staff ID card (you swipe your card on the panel next the door of the hub). Your ID card does not require an update
  2. For the door code contact the parking team at gram.aricarparkingpermits@nhs.scotPlease specify which bike hub you would like the code for.
  3. Make sure you enter the code first then swipe your staff ID card. Wait until the light on the card scanner goes green before attempting to open the door.

Each bike park accommodates 20 bicycles.  Even though the hub is very secure we recommend that you also lock your bicycle to the stands inside the hub with a quality ‘sold secure’ lock.  Advice is to lock your bike with more than one type of lock if you can.

Please do not obstruct access for others by leaving your bike anywhere apart from adjacent to a stand within the hub.

If you have any feedback or questions about the bike hubs or any other questions about support for cyclists and active travel within NHS Grampian please post on the Bicycle User Group or email: gram.activetravel@nhs.scot
