Sleep is an essential part of life and contributes to us feeling well and happy. However, most people will experience problems sleeping at some point in their life. Sleep disruption is a common issue, especially at times when you may feel emotionally overwhelmed.

 

Help to get a better night sleep

 

The Healthpoint team from Public Health have developed a series of short videos to help you get a better nights sleep. 

Watch each video below to learn about the basics of sleep, what causes poor quality sleep and methods to improve sleep quality. If you have any questions or looking for further support you can contact the Healthpoint team.

 

Sleep Session 1 - How much sleep do we need?

The first video in the series will give an overview of sleep. It covers the importance of sleep and how much sleep we need to live a healthy lifestyle.

 

 

Sleep Session 2 - What affects the quality of sleep?

This video  looks at the hormone cortisol and how it influences our ability to sleep. It also covers external factors such as lifestyle, environment and ongoing health conditions. 

 

Sleep Session 3 - How hormones affect sleep

The third video in this series  covers two other hormones: melatonin and adenosine. It looks at how these hormones contribute to a healthy sleep pattern and offers some tips that can be implemented to improve sleep.

 

Sleep Session 4 - How you can improve your sleep

The fourth video focuses on a few other factors including: shift work, caffeine, lifestyle and habits. It also offers strategies which may be helpful to improve the quality of your sleep.
