Shift Work Guidance
What Rest Between Shifts Am I Entitled To?
NHS Grampian has a legal obligation to adhere to the European Working Time Regulations. Part of this legislation relates to the number of hours an employee works per week. These hours should be limited to an average of 48 hours per week in total, over a rolling 17 week period (should an employee have more than one post - within or out with the NHS - the total hours worked per week should not exceed 48).

Individuals do however have the choice to opt-out of this 48 hour limit should they wish to do so using an opt out form.
Guidance and opt out forms are available on the NHS Intranet page, found here:

(Please note that intranet links can only be accessed on NHS Grampian computers, if you need further information please speak to your manager)
