Prevention And Management Of Violence And Aggression

NHS Grampian takes the health, safety and welfare of all employees extremely seriously and is committed to ensuring that work conditions for all staff are, healthy, safe and secure.

NHS Grampian has adopted the definition for workplace violence and aggression provided by the Health and Safety Executive as being;

"Any incident in which a person working in healthcare sector is verbally abused, threatened or assaulted by a patient or member of the public in circumstances relating to his or her employment ".

By the nature of the services we provide, we often come into close contact with people who are in pain, frightened, confused, frustrated, angry and embarrassed. Unfortunately all of these feelings and emotions can fuel violent or aggressive behaviour. However this does not mean that we should accept or endure it's occurrence.
