Sustainable Food
You may be interested in eating more sustainably. This can involve undertaking at least one of the following actions, some of which you may already be doing:
- Eating more locally produced food / eating more seasonal produce
- Eating more organically produced food (food produced without chemical fertiliser or pesticides)
- Eating less meat. Perhaps you are considering vegetarian food options, or a completely plant-based diet. Or perhaps you just want to cut down for the benefit of the environment and you and your family’s health
- Eating fish from sustainable stocks
- If you are fortunate enough to have a garden, growing some of your own food. Try growing some things on a windowsill, such as chilli
- Reducing food waste. UK households produced 6.6 million tonnes of food waste in 2018 Reference: A review of household behaviour in relation to food waste, recycling, energy use and air travel - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)
There is a fun overview of sustainable food production on the BBC bitesize website: Sustainable food resources - KS3 Geography - BBC Bitesize - BBC Bitesize

Is the above expensive? Yes it can be, but controlling the amount of food you throw out can save you hundreds of pounds over the course of a year. Don’t throw out that takeaway, reheat it and eat it the following day (making sure it is thoroughly heated through!).
